Fall foods that are good for your oral health

November 16, 2016

It’s officially the last days of November, which means thanksgiving is around the corner and we will all be indulging in delicious home cooking and enjoying the company of family and friends.

Now, I'm sure you don't often think about oral health when basting a turkey, but did you know your favorite foods can impact your oral health?

Let's take a look.

1.      Cheese lovers rejoice!

According to a report from the American Academy of General Dentistry, eating cheese lowers risk of tooth decay and strengthens tooth enamel.

Some great cheese-driven fall recipes include this Pumpkin and Sweet Onion Quesadilla and Cheesy Winter Squash Muffins.

2.      An apple a day keeps the dentist away?

Apples increase saliva production which helps rinse away bacteria and food particles and stimulate your gums.

And once you collect your apples, put them to use with apple-fueled recipes like this Hearty Pork-and-Ale Stew or Not Your Ordinary Brie.

3.      Almonds!

Almonds are packed full of calcium and protein and are low in sugar, a great combination for oral health!

Get your almond fix in fall recipes like this Five Spice Apple and Almond Won Ton or Almond Crusted Pumpkin Fritter.

Regardless of your food choices this holiday season, make sure to brush regularly, floss daily, and visit Provident Dentistry for our checkups and oral health needs!

Happy Holidays!
