Oral Care Tips that will keep your kids’ teeth healthy during School Season

As you get your kids ready to head back to school in a few weeks, don’t forget to add dental health to your fall checklist.
Here’s a few oral hygiene tips courtesy of our Provident Dentistry doctors:
1. Schedule a dental appointment: Start the new school year on a good note by scheduling a dental cleaning and exam at our Provident Dentistry office. Did you know dental disease causes children to miss more than 51 million school hours each year? You can help prevent it by keeping your hygiene appointment with us on schedule.

2. Make brushing and flossing fun: To keep your kids mouth healthy, they should brush twice a day for two minutes at a time. They should also floss every day, preferably after dinner. Hygienists at Provident Dentistry recommend these tricks to make dental health more exciting for your kids:

  • Help your child pick a themed toothbrush in his or her favorite color.
  • Collect your kids’ favorite two-minute songs and make sure they brush the whole time.
  • Let your kids place stickers on a calendar representing days they’ve brushed and flossed their teeth.

3. Opt for healthy lunchbox snacks: Swap out salty or sugary snacks for healthy alternatives. Offer snacks like apples & peanut butter, nuts, and celery sticks instead of chips and granola bars.

Have a safe and happy School Year!
